Im looking at flights to mexico.

For a restricted flight, you need to book 2 weeks in advance and have a saturday night stay. For a round trip restricted flight coach trip around the continental usa (48 states), you officially need 25,000 thanyou points. However, thankyou network has made their program more flexible (since last october). If you call them up, depending on your flight, seasonality etc, you may get a ticket for less than 25,000 points.
Unrestricted flight means you book your tickets with less than 2 weeks notice and do not want to stay a Saturday night. In the past, if you fly domestic unrestricted flight, you will need 50,000 points instead of 25,000 points. But with the new changes to the thankyou network (since last october), the travel operator will try to get the best flights for you and you need even less than 25,000 points to get your ticket. Point is the number of points required depends on your flight, whether it is a full flight etc.

Most ppl peddle them in a section just for that in the classifieds of their local newspaper. You can also offer them on eBay, and expect to take a loss with both methods, but it does beat a total loss.

    • doublede 6:48 pm on March 1, 2010 Permalink

Could be tough to unload. Post 9/11 ticket transfer restrictions have made it difficult to simply buy someone elses open ticket.
You should call your airline to verify if they can accommodate a transfer of ur ticket. If so, then jump on eBay and sell it.

    • rachel 1:41 am on March 2, 2010 Permalink

Call the airline ASAP and see if you can get credit for them! Usually you will be reimbursed somehow, especially if you had any kind of insurance. Good luck!

  • Do Airlines Still Offer Airfare Discounts If You Are Traveling Due To Death Of A Family Member?

Not just to attend funeral services, but as a sole surviving relative, to make funeral arrangements, close out the estate, etc

    • Randi Z 3:13 pm on March 1, 2010 Permalink

Do gas stations, dry cleaners, rent a car places, hotels or funeral directors give discounts to people because a relative died???
What about appliance stores, cell phone companies, sushi bars and tile and flooring stores?
Why would you expect an airline to treat you any differently?

    • knuckleh 8:08 pm on March 1, 2010 Permalink

Yes, but it appears you can usually get as low a rate online.http://www.usatoday.com/travel/columnist…

    • yeah<3 12:31 am on March 2, 2010 Permalink

yeah they do, put its a pain to go through the process, because you have to present the death certificate and id and a bunch of other stuff, so it is easier just to get a cheap ticket online.

    • Dan 6:10 am on March 2, 2010 Permalink

Maureeen, I do not know of any airline that does. I have not seen any box to check for online booking for this, either.
      Regards,
      Dan

I need a one way flight from Detroit, MI to Touscon, AZ
On any day from Oct. 3rd thru the 6th, straight flight, no layovers
and I need the departure times before 9 am or after 6 pm

First go to orbitz or expedia. Then go directly to the website of the airline that they give you. Being in detroit I am guessing you will end up on Northwest. So if you want just go directly to their website and see what kind of fares the offer. You wont pay a service fee like you do online. Or call a travel agent and let them quote you fares.

    • sweetcec 7:10 pm on March 1, 2010 Permalink

Orbitz and Expedia are the standards. I like cheaptickets.com and priceline.com. You can usually save a couple of dollars through them.

    • Mikey D 8:17 pm on March 1, 2010 Permalink

Try Kayak.com as they are a new travel search engine and allow you to specify time.

    • Tzur 9:17 pm on March 1, 2010 Permalink

Try FareChase, they search dozens of websites for you, so you dont have to!!!

  • Why Are My Flights Always On Time?

Every single time I have to fly somewhere, my flight is on time. This sucks because whenever people talk about flight delays and how slow airports are, I can’t participate in the discussion.
Any tips on getting delayed flights?

    • soccerkn 3:43 am on March 1, 2010 Permalink

umm you dont want them to be delayed if you want to fly somewhere were there is goin to be a blizzard and get stuck in the airport and then you will have a story

    • farina m 8:49 am on March 1, 2010 Permalink

you just wanted your flight to be delayed just to participate in discussions? well dats a very open-minded person. its good dats your flight is on time. but if youre dat kind of person who doesnt care about flights being on time and can move slower and look around at the airport or on the way there, then its fine. in my country here there are two leading airlines company. one of it is the cheap fare airline where they delay their flight always and forever. dont talk about one or two hours, it could go til 5 hours. i suggest you visit Malaysia and try AirAsia airlines. you’ll get the experience

    • Tissa 11:57 am on March 1, 2010 Permalink

GET ROUTED THRU CHICAGO OHARE…IF IT IS A ROUND TRIP FLT YOU ARE GURANTEED TO BE DELAYED IN ONE DIRECTION

    • Amara 6:14 pm on March 1, 2010 Permalink

You must be kidding because if you’re not, you have lost your mind. Being delayed for a flight sucks. I was on a flight once with Delta that was scheduled to leave at 130 in the afternoon. The end result? We ended up on an American Airlines flight at 1030 that evening. My flight was completely cancelled. You do not want a delayed flight. Trust me.

    • prizelad 11:38 pm on March 1, 2010 Permalink

      Your kidding right?

    • Ms. Denton Lone Star ™ 12:26 am on March 2, 2010 Permalink

I don’t see why you want late flights.

    • Ricky D 1:03 am on March 2, 2010 Permalink

      Choose a different airline

    • maria fkun 7:22 am on March 2, 2010 Permalink

You should be very grateful for that, a lot of people would be so delighted to have such an opportunity, no new know when you will really want to be some where asap, and that flight is delayed I am sure you will take back your word and I quarantee you it is not too late for that to happen.

    • JC 1:17 pm on March 2, 2010 Permalink

sorry but you are so lucky, I’d like to be in your shoes, no delayed flights what a dream

    • tshark44 2:10 pm on March 2, 2010 Permalink

why do you feel it is so important to participate in that awful discussion, once it does happen to you ,, you wish it never again, so thx your lucky stars you got on an on time flight..
fyi- you want a delay flight, go fly out of upper NY, or Denver ,DC when it snows…….

    • Radhiyah Coutry 2:42 pm on March 2, 2010 Permalink

      (1) go on waiting list
      (2) get a flight during peak periods, eg. xmas, New year’s eve etc
      (3) transit flights

    • Monica T 8:17 pm on March 2, 2010 Permalink

Try connecting through Chicago. You are bound to have delays there.

    • swarovski crystals 2:20 am on March 3, 2010 Permalink

consider yourself lucky – being delayed is the worst ! Just ask those poor people stuck on Jet Blue at JFK airport for 10 hours !
Just once I would like my flight NOT to be delayed
